On Saturday, December 8, Samtec hosted its 16th annual Cookies With Santa event at Mid-America Science Park for their employees and families. The event is specifically designed to bring Samtec employees and their families, together for a fun holiday event.
Samtec employs around 350 associates, and the annual Christmas event is for the employees’ families, children, and grandchildren. Peggy Blackburn is the coordinator of the event, and she prepares all year long for the occasion.
“We have different fundraisers all year long to prep for this event,” said Blackburn. “We raise money to buy the toys by selling candy, tee shirts, and sweatshirts.”
This year there were 253 kids signed up to attend Cookies With Santa, and every child who attended got his or her own toy to take home. Along with the gifts, there were fun games and activities set up around the venue for the kids to participate in such as face painting, cookie and ornament decorating, games, and even a train station set up for the children to enjoy. Santa (a New Albany Samtec employee) was also present to take pictures with all the children and their families.
“We hope the event brings the factory a lot closer,” said Blackburn. “Seeing all the kids have a good time is what is most important.”
An extravagant event like this couldn’t be pulled off if it wasn’t for many volunteers. A lot of the employees of Samtec donated cookies, and some even made the games and equipment for the game area.
“We couldn’t do it without our volunteers,” Blackburn added. “Even my own family helped out and volunteered for the event.”
The Cookies with Santa annual party was a roaring success. The participants enjoyed cookies and drinks, and mingled with other associates’ families.
As one of the volunteers added, “It’s all about the kids!”
