Members of the Scott County community may remember Montgomery Farms as a place for fun fall activities, but this 3rdgeneration family farm has much more to offer than a corn maze and haunted hayrides these days. Since their transition in 2012, Montgomery Farms has turned into a full blown wedding and event venue. Alongside the events, they also offer an annual Sweet Corn Festival that originated in 2018.
Montgomery Farms is now owned by brother and sister duo, Dallas R. Montgomery and Mandi Bieda. Their grandfather, Dallas Montgomery, bought the land in 1936, and it has been passed down through the generations ever since. The farm is 40 acres and features a 150 year old barn that is the site of many weddings, receptions, and events on the property.
Since the corn maze closed in 2011, the farm is now known for their lavish weddings and receptions.
“We essentially started a new business from scratch after the corn maze,” said co-owner and Corporate Events Coordinator, Dallas R. Montgomery.
The farm also offers a venue for corporate events, charity fundraisers, and other events where people are seeking a larger setting. This year the farm is host to 35 weddings through the months of April to October.
“We will have anywhere from one to three weddings a week,” said Montgomery. “We really focus on our customer service, and want people to feel like they are attending an upscale wedding or event.” From their custom designs, to their bridal and groom suites, Montgomery Farms has all of the accommodations to go above and beyond for the special day.
Starting last year, Montgomery Farms started an annual Sweet Corn Festival on the last Saturday in July. This year’s festival will be held on July 27, and will feature many fun events such as a petting farm, a sweet corn eating contest, a mechanical bull, food trucks, a rock climbing wall, and much, much more. The Festival has free parking and free admission. The Festival will start at 11:00 AM and end at 9:00 PM with a firework show.
“We had over 1,500 people last year and are expecting over 5,000 people this year,” added Montgomery.
The Sweet Corn Festival is located on the Montgomery Farms property each year, and they partner with a foundation through Methodology: Excelling Through Behavior located in New Albany, Indiana.
“The Sweet Corn Festival is a way for us to give back to the community,” said Montgomery.
The Sweet Corn Festival is a non-profit, and all proceeds from the festival will go towards their Sunday, July 28, event “Special Abilities Barnyard Bash” held for those with special needs and their families. The Barnyard Bash is a day of free food, activities, and relaxation for very deserving families.
“It’s just a free, fun day on the farm for everyone,” said Montgomery.
The Barnyard Bash is free to all families who have individuals with special needs. To register for the Barnyard Bash, visit their website www.sweetcornfestival.org.
