Local floral shop, Fashions in Flowers, is located at 401 South Gardner Street in Scottsburg. Owner Heather Spurgeon has been known for making beautiful flower arrangements, as well as offering specialty items for many years within the community. The store has been recently revamped. A couple of partnerships have been added for a locally-owned, multi-faceted business right here in the middle of Scott County.
Fashions in Flowers is owned by Spurgeon, and she has recently partnered with local business owners, Hannah and Jesse Donohue of Eleven Dreams, and Susanna Bard of Crumbles to turn the local flower shop into a boutique style business.
“Heather reached out to me after seeing our handmade items on social media and asked if I’d like to sell in her shop,” said Eleven Dreams owner Hannah Donohue. “It’s been a huge blessing, and we are very thankful for her.”
Going from selling online to an actual storefront is a big opportunity for many small locally owned businesses. This way customers can see the products for sale first hand, and to get a grasp of the quality of what they are buying.
“We are really excited to be able to have a place for our customers to see items before they buy. For our community, we are just so happy to have space to offer quality home and gift items locally,” added Donohue. “Selling custom orders online has been great, but we make a lot of the same things, so we are also excited to have some creative freedom back and a space to sell new things we want to try.”
Along with their handmade wood pieces, Eleven Dreams also features boutique style home décor and gift items. Many items that are featured on their website and Instagram page can also be found in the local shop.
For Crumbles owner, Susanna Bard, this opened a whole new business venture. She has partnered with Fashions in Flowers in the past, but has expanded her small business and opened up her shop inside the storefront as well. There is a kitchen on site where Bard sells her homemade baked goods, lunch specials, and more.
“Heather reached out to me about 5 years ago to make cupcakes for a Valentine’s special. It was a big success, and we have partnered up for several holidays since then,” said Bard. “It was off and running from there!”
Bard posts her featured weekly specials on her Facebook page for Crumbles. She has a lunch special a couple of days a week as well. Be sure to go early; her delicious homemade items tend to sell out quickly.
“The support from the local community has been fantastic! I am humbled and grateful each week,” said Bard. “This truly has changed my life.”
Both partners are very thankful for Spurgeon giving them an opportunity to showcase their talents at a storefront location.
